I would really hate for there to be aggression between the two of them, I know this may be the case with two male zebras, but I am not sure if the same applies to two males of a different species. Will Atticus and Boo make good companions for one another? I have been reading that society finches can live pretty comfortably with zebras, but I am wondering if it makes a difference if its only the two of them, being that they are both males. So now comes my question for all you experienced finch owners on here: Andrew and I have had some really pleasant exchanges through email, and I would really love to give little Atticus a forever home, and for he and Boo to become companions. Once I saw the name, I immediately felt like it was kismet that I found the listing Boo Radley & Atticus Finch, seems meant to be. I finally came across a listing online posted by about his hand-raised society finch, Atticus Finch. So, I began my search for a companion for Boo earlier this passed week, looking everywhere online that I could adoption sites, breeder sites, and I have asked local pet stores. He's very energetic and chatty, but I can definitely tell that he is lonely. He has not had a companion since his brothers died and he has never had a mate. He's a sweetie, but is not tamed and was not hand raised, so he is pretty afraid of people. My friend guessed Boo to be about 4 years old. He had 5 brothers, all of which unfortunately did not live long, and his parents passed as well. Boo was born to two zebra finches that had been given to my friend originally by someone else. I drove 2 hours away to pick him up, and now he's been with me for a little over a week. I have always admired finches, but have never had them in my care before, so I made sure to do plenty of research about them before I told her I would take him. She was about to move across the country in a matter of days and had desperately been trying to rehome him with no luck when she remembered my history and connection with birds. A friend of mine messaged me recently about her Zebra Finch. I have a fair amount of experience with birds, having raised a couple of wild birds and also rehabbing several abused/neglected parakeets. I am new here, and I was guided here by to seek out some advice regarding his society finch, Atticus, and my zebra finch, Boo. Overall, Battlefield V can be lots of fun to play today, even if there’s still a lot of building left to do. Their successful story moments aren’t really enough to go out of your way for but they’re worth playing once you’re here. On the single-player front, Battlefield V presents three short but distinct vignettes that weirdly focus on small-scale stealth instead of bombastic vehicular warfare. Bold changes to Battlefield’s traditional gunplay, essential resources, and team dynamics create a strong foundation. However, there’s a great deal of raw potential here that could, with time and luck, be forged into one of the series’ best. And a variety of bugs, underdeveloped features, and placeholder menu screens remind you of that at nearly every turn. Like a fresh recruit, Battlefield V was clearly deployed into action without adequate preparation. And while Falck’s Specialist trait allows her to revive downed teammates to full health, anyone can revive their teammates or provide healing. I initially thought Falck would basically be the only option for someone who likes to play as a medic, but it turns out that anyone can go in as a healer if they equip the medical crate gadget, which lets them throw out the typical Battlefield area-of-effect healing box. Her Specialty skill arms her with a Syrette Pistol that fires syringes which heal allies and herself, but damage enemies. For example, I first decided to go with Support Specialist Maria Falck to act as the team medic. However, unlike the previous Battlefield games where classes had very specific jobs and skills to define them, 2042’s Specialists’ skills don’t really change a team’s dynamic much. What it does have is the infantry and vehicle-based shootouts across those huge, beautiful maps Battlefield is generally known for, as well as a few fresh ideas of its own – but not all of the innovations it introduces are for the better.įor instance, at first glance it appears that Battlefield 2042’s roster of 10 playable Specialists are based off of the original four Battlefield classes: Assault, Support, Recon, and Engineer. It also does away with even the meager campaign stories Battlefield V had, featuring no single-player options whatsoever. The goal was to bring back the feeling of Battlefield being a playground again. As the name implies, this latest Battlefield shifts the series into a near future setting full of high-tech gadgets and freedom to play Battlefield the way you want. Thankfully, its tense new Hazard Zone mode provides an interesting strategic alternative, and its crazy-customizable Portal tools are an exciting glimpse at how its future could thrive with a little help from the creativity of the community.Īfter playing Battlefield 2042 on live servers with the other players who have the Gold Edition, Ultimate Edition, or a subscription to EA Play Pro, I’m not entirely impressed. While chaotic gunfights are undoubtedly part of Battlefield’s charm, massive lobbies with that many players eventually turned the series’ signature modes frustrating instead of fun. Watching 128 players simultaneously running into Battlefield 2042’s crowded warzones is a great illustration of why bigger isn’t always better. The cut-out, combined with modified machining on the underside of the slide assembly, allows the action to be opened with a shell on the carrier. Guns with this modification can be identified by the U-shaped cut-out on the carrier, visible from below the gun. The potential issue was resolved with the introduction of the "Flexi Tab" carrier. This was caused by the shell slipping out of the magazine under the bolt in the receiver to bind the action, requiring rough treatment of the action or even disassembly. The 870's production for over 30 years had a design flaw whereby a user could fail to press a shell all the way into the magazine when loading - so that the shell latch did not engage the shell - which could result in tying up the gun. The following year the availability was expanded to the 20 gauge and included other barrel lengths. Initially, the Rem Chokes were offered only in 12 gauge in barrel lengths of 21", 26", and 28". In 1986 Remington introduced the new Remington "Rem Choke" system of screw-in chokes (also fitted to Remington model 1100 auto-loading shotguns at the same time). The original 870 models were offered with fixed chokes. Several parts of the 870, such as buttstocks and magazine tubes, will interchange with the semi-automatic Remington 1100 and 11–87. Twelve gauge stocks will also interchange on the older 12-gauge-sized 20-gauge receivers, although modification is needed to fit the smaller sized 20-gauge receivers employed since the late 1970s. The basic fire control group design was first used in the automatic 11–48. The action, receiver, fire control group, safety catch and slide release catch of the Remington Model 870 shotgun are similar to those used on the Remington Model 7600 series pump-action centerfire rifles and carbines. It has dual action bars, internal hammer, and a bolt which locks into an extension in the barrel. The gun comes with a plug for migratory bird hunting which reduces the magazine's capacity to two rounds. The 870 features a bottom-loading, side ejecting receiver and a tubular magazine under the barrel. On April 13, 2009, the ten millionth Model 870 was produced. By 1996, spurred by sales of the basic "Express" models, which were added as a lower-cost alternative to the original Wingmaster line, sales topped seven million guns. As of 1983, the 870 held the record for the best-selling shotgun in history, with three million sold. Remington sold two million guns by 1973 (ten times the number of Model 31 shotguns it replaced). To achieve better sales, Remington produced the Model 870 in 1950, which was more modern and reliable in its construction, easy to take apart and maintain, and relatively inexpensive. Consequently, it struggled in sales compared to the Winchester Model 12. The Model 31 was marketed as the “ball-bearing repeater” and was well-received, but its many machined and handfitted parts made the gun expensive to manufacture. John Browning designed the Remington Model 17 (which was later adapted by Ithaca into the Ithaca 37), which served as the basis for the Remington 31. John Pedersen designed the fragile Remington Model 10 (and later the improved Remington Model 29). The Remington 870 was the fourth major design in a series of Remington pump shotguns. It is widely used by the public for shooting sports, hunting and self-defense, as well as by law enforcement and military organizations worldwide. The Remington Model 870 is a pump-action shotgun manufactured by Remington Arms Company, LLC. Is slipping due to broken gear teeth? Are their transmissions so badly built that they fail in such a short time?Īny advice on further course of action other than replacing the tranny? What can I do other than replace the tranny? I read other forums and there was mention of class action for rebuilt but could not find any info. Asked about the pressure switches and they said that it is not the problem. They say that the transmission is slipping and will have to be replaced ($5500) and that replacing the fluid/flushing the transmission would not do anything. It is now little over 43 months and around 47000 miles on this transmission. Took it to the Honda dealer who had installed the replacement transmission in June 2009 (36 month/36000 mile warranty). I want to forestall any major problems with the tranny since I hope to use it for another couple of years. Now it is 145000 miles and this winter since January (I live in NJ) I notice that when it is cold and the engine is cold and I start driving without warming up around 20-25 mph the engine revs (possibly because the gear shift from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd doesn't happen smoothly). I bought a 2001 Honda Odyssey in Aug 2001 and in June 2009 the transmission had to be replaced at 98000 miles (within extended warranty on miles and 2 months outside the extended warranty on months. So then I called Honda America got the opportunity to talk to three different ladies and give my vin #, address, e mail, and tell my story three different times. Numbers are written with combinations of letters from the Latin alphabet, each letter with a fixed integer value. The symbols are I, V, X, L, C, D, and M, standing respectively for 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, and 1,000 in the Hindu-Arabic numeral system. Roman numerals are a numeral system that originated in ancient Rome and remained the usual way of writing numbers throughout Europe well into the Late Middle Ages. Please reread your original post in this thread and look for where there is a piece that the roman numerals are part of a longer text variable. Roman numeral, any of the symbols used in a system of numerical notation based on the ancient Roman system. Learn how to convert any number into Roman numerals, where they come from, and how they are used today. They represent the numbers one, five, ten, fifty, one hundred, five hundred, and one thousand. But not even going to guess without concrete examples. Roman numerals are a system for writing numbers using seven letters from the Roman alphabet. When you say 4B I have to assume that you have other values like 4A 4C (100) 4D (500).Įxtract you roman numeral then use one of the informats suggested and replace with the numeric value. So you are going to have to provide a lot more rules and examples about when an "i" is a Roman numeral and when it is any other letter i. I wanted to build something flexible so it could work for a variety of different number of Roman numerals. For example, 4BI is 4 b i) and it could have ii) iii) etc. Actually at the end of inclusion/exclusion criteria. Roman numerals are a special kind of number system that uses letters to represent certain base numbers and arbitrary numbers. Then I right click the FLASHING GREEN controller icon and select pair controller. After I have one controller connected successfully, I took the "good" controller out of the room, away from base stations and the headset so it could not be found, but was still flashing green on SteamVR. One will connect while the other won't and will stay blue (or sometimes go green for 4 seconds and then turn off). I have figured out a consistent way (for me at least) to connect both of my controller wirelessly! I start by figuring out which is the "bad" controller and do the normal pairing process. Anything else I can try?"Ĭouldn't connect both Vive controllers wirelessly at the same time On very rare occasions it'll just magically work (it's happened 2 times out of owning it for a month). I've tried switching USB ports, switching between 3.0 and 2.0, updating firmware, reinstalling drivers, and even running through room setup with the "bad" controller plugged in via USB and unplugging it after the setup is complete. It tracks if I plug it into USB, but won't track after unplugging it. So I wonder if this is some dodgy data pass-through in just my own Oculus Link cable or if it's a systemic-problem for everyone with the current version of Oculus Link not being configured correctly to pass through data."So I've been having this issue and I can't seem to find a post of something exactly like it, but when I start up steamVR and pair my controllers, only one (it switches between which one) will connect, and when I do the exact same process (pair controller) to the other one, nothing happens and it can't be found. Virtual Desktop is alright but I prefer the higher visual fidelity, better reliability and lower latency using a wired connection via Oculus Link when I can. Movement follows the direction of headset or controller (as selected) in Half Life: Alyx, throwing works much better in SUPERHOT VR (SteamVR) and the benchmark seems to work fully. What's more is that everything (control-wise) seems to work just fine if I use the Virtual Desktop App. B button to bring up the menu worked and tracking of my hands and grip+trigger worked with hands fully represented in game but not the A button and actually selecting menu items so I can't actually start the benchmark run. I'm aware it's a bit unusual and uses headset direction to control a cursor but I couldn't select anything. I also tried the VR Benchmark Kanojo in SteamVR (for benchmarking purposes I swear) and I just completely couldn't select anything. I don't think it's just a lack of coordination on my part since throwing things seems to work just fine in Half Life: Alyx. Being unable to throw just makes the game unplayable when there are levels which require throwing to complete. I think it might be the "release" of the grip getting delayed heavily since I can sometimes get things to go by trying to let go midway through the swing and trying to "follow-through" very far. I'll try throw things but they end up going nowhere or even flying backwards. When trying to play SUPERHOT VR (in SteamVR via Oculus Link) throwing things seems completely broken. Not completely unplayable but very annoying since it keeps screwing up my movement and I have to try compensate by joystick turning constantly. The same issue is present regardless of if controller or headset relative movement is selected. If I use the joystick to continuous or snap turn, that seems to reset my in-game "direction" then forward is forward again. So I can push forward and I'll go forward but if I for example turn myself around 180 degrees IRL and push forward then I end up going backwards. When trying to play Half Life: Alyx with continuous locomotion, the joystick works at moving me around but it doesn't follow my headset/controller direction. I'll also add that I'm using the official first-party Oculus Link cable which I bought together with my Quest 2 direct from the official Oculus website and everything is up-to-date afaik (I just let everything auto-update). The controller/controls don't seem to be working 100% as intended. However, I have issues when trying to use them in Oculus Link. The Touch controllers which came with my Quest 2 seem to work 100% fine when running native apps no latency issues, no dropouts, all controls working as intended afaik. I did some searches and I couldn't find anyone else making posts with this issue so hopefully isn't not a one-off thing. This only lasted for a few days before the hair got too tangled to retract anymore. Growing up, my older sister had a doll which, with the press of a lever, could grow or retract its multi-colored hair. Unlike Play-Doh, Toca Hair Salon requires no clean-up. Swiping left will allow you to adorn the character with accessories such as hats, glasses and hair bows. Swiping right with two fingers at the bottom of the screen will take you along the counter to tools that allow you to comb, color and wash the hair. At this point, you are free to swipe the character’s hair away or grow it back at will. Before you lies a set of shears, clippers, a comb, a razor and a mysterious bottle simply labeled “Grow”. There is no tutorial and the music has lapsed into silence. The character you chose ambles amiably on screen and waits. Next you are taken to a counter in what looks more like a living room than a hair salon. In a bold narrative twist, you play the owner of a rival Hair Salon, scheming to undercut the famous Toca Hair Salon across the street with your daring hairstyles. Select one you like and you are ready to start. Hit the Play button and you’re presented with six character portraits. Start it up and you are greeted by a friendly animated Toca Boca face (each of the apps has a unique animation), followed by a title screen, a catchy tune and a big Play button. Okay, now let’s look at Toca Hair Salon 2, perhaps the most popular Toca Boca app. But much like a ball can be used to play various games but is not a game in and of itself, Pokémon is not, by definition, a game. Is the goal then to catch every pokémon? To defeat your neighbor in PvP battle? To own a Shiny, Sassy, EV-trained Gardevoir? To complete the Nuzlocke Challenge? These are all perfectly valid objectives and can be considered extrinsically defined games. Pokémon is interesting in that it seems to present the victory condition of defeating the gym leaders, the Elite Four and your rival (whoops, spoiler alert), but the game (ummm, I mean, non-game) continues on after you do so. Since SimCity does not actually have a victory condition, Wright famously categorizes it not as a game, but instead as a Software Toy. For example, in Chess, the objective is to capture your opponent’s king and in Super Mario World, the objective is to defeat Bowser in the final castle. Got your answer? It’s a trick question, none of these are games! Before you send that scathing tweet, hear me out.Īccording to game design legend and SimCity creator Will Wright, games, by definition, have intrinsic objectives and victory conditions. Quick test: Which of these is not a game: SimCity, Minecraft or Pokémon? Take your time. This is a trend that I dislike (why can’t there be an educational game with mature themes?) but it’s hard to argue with Toca Boca’s economic success. “Educational games” have somehow become synonymous with games that are safe and wholesome and are where parents often look for content for their kids. Just ask Toca Boca CEO, Björn Jeffrey who points out that many apps in the education category of the app store are not necessarily educational. How can you say they are not educational? Well, it’s not me who says they aren’t educational. I know what you’re thinking: Toca Boca apps have been topping the iOS Education charts since 2012. Otherwise, let’s take a look at the “educational” and “game” qualities of these non-educational-games. If you are just interested in reading about the specific apps, feel free to scroll down to the "Not a Review" section. (North Berkeley to Millbrae takes just under an hour.) Seven and a half minutes with each app doesn’t sound like much, but they’re very light and I exhausted the content before even reaching Daly City (48 minutes in). I played with each of them on my new iPad Mini 3 while on the BART train to work. To understand the Toca Boca phenomenon, I purchased and installed eight of their apps for $2.99 each: Toca Hair Salon 2, Toca Kitchen 2, Toca Town, Toca Builders, Toca Boo, Toca Nature, Toca Train and Toca Kitchen. What are these apps, you ask? Why, they’re from Toca Boca, which just celebrated its 100 millionth download last Tuesday. I’m back from vacation and ready with something fresh for your faces! You may know me for writing about educational games, but today I am writing about some apps that are not educational. |
